Guide to Molveno Italy

Molveno

How do I start whit Molveno? Ok, Molveno is this magical little village located in the region of Trentino Alto-Adige / Südtirol, in northern Italy, that we didn’t even know existed until an hour before going.

Being at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites it is an absolute paradise for outdoor lovers and families.

The village offers a great time for every member of the family. There are playgrounds, a beach, mini-golf, a small water park, Tennis courts, Bocce courts, and more.

When arriving from the south be prepared to hold your jaw because the views that will greet you are simply jaw-dropping. The lake has this beautiful and vibrant turquoise color, and the Brenta Dolomites in the background rising sky high. Ahhhh, so amazing!

What to do

Go hiking

As I said earlier Molveno lies on the foot of the Brenta Dolomites, therefore it offers plenty of hiking opportunities. Unfortunately, they had a severe storm in October 2018 that ruined most of the trails leading to the top of the mountains. As of today (7/2/20) they are still under reconstruction.

But don’t let this discourage you as there are still several fun hikes you can do.

  • Lake Molveno Loop
  • Loop from the Lake Molveno to Baita Ciclamino.
  • Hike to Croz Dell’altissimo from the Pradel
  • Hike to Croz Dell’altissimo from lake.
  • From Pradel to Andalo (neighboring village)

Go Swimming in Molveno Lake

Molveno Lake is the largest lake that belongs solely to Trentino. It is hard not to go for a swim in the lake when its ever-changing shades of blues are always inciting you to take a dip.

So find a good spot at the beach and take the dip in its refreshing waters and enjoy the view of the Brenta Dolomites.

Navigate Lake Molveno

You have plenty of options to navigate the lake. You can either rent a Stand-up paddleboard, a paddleboat, a canoe, a rowboat, or even an electric boat. The electric boats only cost €25 per hour which is pretty affordable.

We wanted to rent one, but when we decided to do it the day turned grey and started to rain a little. So it is something we will have to do next time because there will be a next time! 🙂

Just Relax

Because sometimes all you need is to relax, reset, and recharge your energies. And there is no better place to do it than in an incredibly beautiful village in the mountains surrounded by nature.

Sit by the beach with a delicious and refreshing drink and soft music and you be set a tranquil day. And don’t forget to bring a floaty so you can sit back and relax in the water too.

Take the Funivie Molveno Pradel

Take the cable car to see Molveno from above and the Brenta Dolomites from up close. It also offers amazing views from the lake, the village, and the adjacent mountains.

You have two options, you can just take the cable car to the Forest Park Altopiano di Pradel, or you can add a second leg by taking a chair lift to Refugio La Montanara.

Another thing we liked is that it is pocket friendly. We paid €16 each for a round-trip including both the cable car and chair lift.

If you are planning to do mountain biking you will love this. You can take the bicycles with you on the cable car!

Stroll around the town

The town itself is quite small, but it has something that is really cool to see and I know you will love is the mixture of Italian and German architecture. Eat some gelato, do people watching, and check out the souvenir stores.

Other awesome activities you can do in Molveno are fishing, paragliding and mountain biking.

Where to Stay

The village offers visitors a couple of options on how to spend the night. You can stay in a hotel, a campground, or a parking lot if you have a van.

If you stay in a hotel ask for the Dolomiti Paganella Card. The card offers discounts to several attractions and free public transportation in Molveno.

The campground in front of the lake offers several areas for tents, bungalows, and motor homes.

If you have a small van there are several parking spots where you can spend the night for free. During the day from 08:00 AM until 06:00 PM, they cost €1.80 per hour or €10.00 for the day. After 06:00 PM they are free.

How to Move Around

Molveno is a compact village, you can walk anywhere and it won’t take you more than 20 minutes. But there is a bus you can take free of charge with the Dolomiti Paganella Card.
